MEET THE PERSON IN YOUR CORNER

A real teammate. A real conversation.

Hi, I'm Travis. As Checkmate's Team Captain & Founder, I work directly with students to make college feel more understandable, more personal, and full of possibility.

Meet Travis

MOMENTS THAT CHANGE A STORY

Every story holds more than meets the eye.

The extraordinary often begins somewhere ordinary: an unanswered question, a difficult week, or a possibility you haven't dared to explore.

A POSSIBLE STORY · FICTIONAL

“I don’t know where to start.”

College choices, applications, and aid forms feel like too much.

See what could change

Travis could help sort what is due, what requires an official college answer, and which small action the student could own today.

WHAT THE STUDENT COULD LEARNOne clear beginning is more useful than a perfect plan.

ANOTHER POSSIBLE STORY · FICTIONAL

“I don’t think I’m good at anything.”

This student helps at home, works after school, and still finds time to study.

Discover what might be overlooked

Travis could ask about those lived experiences and help the student identify the responsibility, persistence, and skills they might represent.

WHAT THE STUDENT COULD LEARNSome strengths were already there—waiting to be recognized and developed.

A WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT

You don’t need your whole future figured out. Let’s start with what catches your interest.

ONE THING TO TRY

Pick one interest you’d like to explore.

THE BARRIER

It feels like everyone else already knows their future.

A WAY THROUGH

You can learn by trying one small thing, not by knowing everything first.

TAKE ONE USEFUL THING WITH YOU · FREE

A small step you can really use.

THE FOUR LIGHTS

Four lights. One path that belongs to you.

The tools help you stay organized. Travis helps you put the pieces together.

01

Find what matters.

Tell us your hopes, interests, or what's getting in the way. You can try Find Your Spark for free.

02

Make a plan together.

We can look at college choices, applications, costs, and questions you want to ask your school. Travis helps you choose a clear place to begin.

03

Make it happen.

Check a college deadline on its official website, then make a plan to send the first application. It's your choice and your action. Your teammate helps you prepare and follow through.

04

See how you've grown.

Celebrate what you actually did. Learn from what didn't work. Keep building skills you can use on your own.

LOOK WHO YOU'RE BECOMING

You can find a way forward.

Not every door opens. That doesn't decide who you become. The Board, Deck, and your story can help you see the real steps you've taken, the barriers you've faced, and what you've learned along the way.

THEN

"I was afraid to ask for help."

NOW

"I checked my options, asked for help, and took the first step."

YOUR FIRST FOOTSTEPS

The beginning of something real.

Here is how we work toward a first useful action—without waiting for a perfect plan.

  1. Get oriented. After the required agreement, payment, and onboarding steps, you receive the appropriate student access and starting Board.
  2. Bring your real situation. What is going well? What feels stuck? What matters to you? Your first Board can start with those answers.
  3. Choose a first action. You and Travis use your first Huddle to make a Game Plan; you can prepare questions and small steps beforehand.
  4. Stay connected. Continue the conversation and follow through using the communication channels and response terms of your membership.

Illustrative sequence, not a guarantee of activation or a meeting within seven calendar days. Membership starts and appointments follow the agreed service terms. No student information is entered or stored on this page.

Good questions before you join

Why pay when my college offers free help?

Please use your school's advisors, financial aid staff, tutors, and other services. They give the official answers about school rules and decisions. Travis helps you prepare questions, make sense of what you learn, and follow through. He's your ongoing teammate, not a replacement for school staff.

Can I ask questions between meetings?

Yes, using the contact methods in your membership terms. Response hours and limits are explained in those terms. Checkmate is not a 24/7 or emergency service.

Can a parent see an adult student's private Board?

Not just because they pay. Adult students control whether their information is shared. Minor-student access follows the applicable consent and guardian rules.

What happens after the first two months?

Your membership continues monthly unless it is canceled under the agreement. See the cancellation terms for timing and details.

What happens when I join?

You review the agreement and payment, complete onboarding, and get your own student access and Board. You and Travis use your first Team Huddle to build a Game Plan. Your exact steps depend on who is enrolling and whether you already have an account.
